Haras de la Cauviniere Stallions Most Demanded in France

France-Sire.com published data from last year’s stud season in France, which provide an interesting insight into French thoroughbred breeding. Let us look at the data in detail.

As the first table shows, the most demanded sire of last season in France was the grey Rajsaman, stables, same as the second most demanded sire Le Havre, at Haras de la Cauviniere. The Gr.2 winner Rajsaman, who will have his first two-year-olds on the racecourse this year, is one of seven Linamix's sons at stud in France. These sons covered a total of 620 mares last year and – by the number of mares covered – Linamix was the most successful sire of sires. Linamix is not the typical representative of Lyphard's line but his sons and grandsons are today the biggest hope of continuing this line in next generations.

The winner of the Prix du Jockey Club Le Havre belongs among the most successful young sires in France, same as Siyouni. Evasive made an impression with his first crop of three-year-olds and he is the fourth sire to have covered over 180 mares.

Rail Link, the winner of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, improved his standing by moving from Banstead Manor Stud to Haras National de Cercy La Tour in France. While he covered just fourteen mares in England in 2014, he had 178 mares in France where he serves as a dual-purpose sire for half of his English fee.

The NH breeding plays a prominent position in France which is reflected in the list of most demanded sires even though the stallions do not cover so many mares as they do in Ireland, for instance. The most demanded sires included, besides Rail Link, Montmartre, one of Montjeu's nine sons at stud in France. Besides him there are, in France, the Epsom Derby winners Authorized and Motivator, who also belongs among the most demanded sires, and there was also Walk In The Park, since this season under the wings of Coolmore at Grange Stud, Ireland, as an NH sire.

What is interesting is the representation of paternity lines and their activity which has some local peculiarities. The most prominent of these are the major positions of Lyphard and Grey Sovereign lines. Lyphard has achieved the status through Linamix, as has been pointed out above, while the line of Nasrullah’s son Grey Sovereign inluced the sires Caro and Kenmare who made a huge job at stud in France. Caro’s line is now active mostly in NH breeding but Kenmare’s line includes the rising star of French breeding Kengargent.

Sadler’s Wells has most active sons at stud in France but almost all of them are NH sires, which is also the case of Monsun's sons.
