6. Inbreeding

“Inbreeding” will display horses from our database in whose pedigrees the searched for names are repeated. If you search, for instance, for horses inbred to Sadler’s Wells, just enter his name into the Horse name box. Generations will enable you to define the number of generations in which you search for the inbreeding, i.e. repeated presence of Sadler’s Wells. If you leave the default number 5, all horses who have Sadler’s Wells in the first five generations will be displayed, for example twice in the fifth generation, or once in the fourth and once in the fifth, or even twice in the third. If you enter the number 4, only horses with inbreeding inside the first four generations will be displayed, if you enter 3, only horses inbred to Sadler’s Wells in the first three generations will be displayed.

“Inbreeding count” makes it possible to choose the level of inbreeding. If you enter 2, all horses who have Sadler’s Wells in their pedigree at least twice will be displayed, if you enter 3, all horses with minimum 3 presences of Sadler’s Wells in their pedigree will be displayed.

Checking the “BT only” box will display only black-type horses. If you check the “Strict” box, only horses inbred to the searched for horse through various offspring will be displayed. So for instance if you choose inbreeding to Sadler’s Wells and check the “Strict” box, the results will not include horses inbred to some of Sadler’s Wells’s sons or daughters such as In The Wings or Montjeu.
